PRESIDENT UHURU COMMENDS NIGERIAN POLL WINNER BUHARI.

General Muhammadu Buhari's win in Nigeria's general election is a clear indication of the people's faith in his leadership, President Uhuru Kenyatta has said. While congratulating Buhari, he said his hope is that relations between Kenya and Nigeria will be strengthened further. Uhuru commended outgoing President Goodluck Jonathan for conceding defeat, saying it earned him honour. “This demonstrates a lot of humility and is an indication that democracy has come of age in your country, and the African continent. No doubt this will earn you a place in the African eminent person’s honour,” he said in a statement on Wednesday. He added that Jonathan has demonstrated courage, patriotism and statesmanship. Uhuru thanked Jonathan for his efforts in promoting fruitful engagements between Kenya and Nigeria during his tenure, noting that it deepened bilateral relations. Buhari, 72, who first came to power three decades ago via a military coup, garnered 15.4 million votes compared to Jonathan's 13.3 million. He campaigned as a born-again democrat intent on cleaning up the corrupt politics of Africa's most populous nation. He will be sworn in on May 29, as the 16th head of state of Nigeria, which attained independence in 1960. - See more at: http://www.the-star.co.ke/news/uhuru-commends-nigerian-election-winner-buhari-terms-outgoing-president-jonathan-patriot#sthash.veKfjqRc.dpuf Source, The Star
