Grieved to the grave: Shocking tale of a 12 year boy

“Son don't cry for me, I have lived my dream”, the old mzee said amidst light smiles to his son. “Dad, I cry for the future, the clouds have gathered, mulling together for a fight, they are ready to consume me (sobs)”, the son replied. “Don't worry young man, the Lord of Shadrack, Meshack and Adednego is alive, listening to your troubles”Mzee reinforced. “But how? How dad? Its crushing me” the young man retorted. Just like a dream so real, a pain so fresh, Mzee succumbed to Cancer.

Many a times we have our dreams, but to this young boy, at his tender age, just 12 years old, he has had to live in frustrations, navigating between the garbage dumpsites and deserted cavings for shelter.Until the death of his fatther, this young boy exhibited exelent accedemic progress, he was always among the top best three in his local primary school. The story of this young man touched me to share with you, maybe you can sympathize, at times you can empathize and most fondly, you can help, to help with the little you have, to light a future, to bring the young mans dreams to reality. You help will be prayers, it will count to his future.

There he walks at a distance, feebling and hungry, with tattred clothes and grim face in sunken chuckles, his eyes portrays a messsage of hopelessness, betrayal and self denial. Betrayal from a society his father served, betrayal from apeople his father helped till his sunset days, betrayal from his teachers and colleague students. Betrayal from his teachers pinch him, hurts him and has left a vaccum of wound, despite his ability, academic potential, his teachets have shun him like plague, no one is willing to help, no one is willing to listen, but I offer the solace.

Ouch, he stumbles on a sharp object, blood is oozing from his right toe.”Hey boy, I will be of help, just relax”, I whisper into his ear. He wriths in pain, sitted by the trenches, looking mysteriously at the eyes of this stranger who is ready to help.

A siren so loud rents the air, downtown the road is cleared.I think fire has broken loose somewhere or maybe a life is in danger. The sound is now clear, I can see the governors motorcade, cruising through the busy market. The young boy looks, he can only afford to hold his chin by his two hands and sob, painful tears streaming through from his cheecks.”Ooh Dad, you went so soon, I miss you”, the boy broke into tears.

It touched me, it pained me, my eyes grew wet, my heart was a clout of pain, mixed feelings and dissapointment of our failed leadership, my county government and its entire management. The Governors fuel guzzlers stear through.

“Helo sir, will you mind assisting me with your aid kid to help this young boy”, I asked a relaxed matatu driver on his Nissan.” sure ,you can have it, what has happen to him? I can see some blood” he asked. “Well, he has been priked by a metal, you know the garbage collection system in the town is poor, everything flows and seeps into our roads” I explained. “Youll have to excuse me, let me help him out, a minute and I will return it back”. You know sometimes these drivers and conductors can be good and welcoming, but at times, only God knows.

I vividly recall my scouting skills, especially when it came to first aid. I quickly got to the boy, cleaned his wound and dressed him. In few minutes time he was up. But I could not leave him, he had a tale to tell, a sad story to narrate and pain so pricking to share. “You know, am very much greatfull, thanks stranger, your different from apeople of your ilk, they treat us like dogs”he said. I felt pain in his opening remark, the young man was so fluent, coherent and eloquent in his speech. He expressed himself openly and with much ease, but there was something to that, his speech was sandwitched with pain and suffrering.

“I dream about going back to school, I desire to clear my studies and be a doctor, atleast if I were back then, I would have saved my dad. He died a bitter-yet smilling man, his face was laways in pain, I saw it. I have my books and report hidden under some rock near where I sleep in town, beside that huge dumpsite (pointing at the town largest dumpsite). My dad told me my mother died when she was giving birth to me, may the good Lord rest her soul in peace....” he again broke into tears. His story thrilled me, it drew my attention at this point, I felt in his shoes, same condition, same environment, much pain.

“Our relatives came for dads burial, but when they were leaving, they ensured they left with everything, they threw me out of the house and locked the door. No one bothered nor cared about me. I was the only child, the first and the last born. This was all fate had for me!”the young man narrated. All this time, he has been hardening his face, keeping it manly but I could see, pain and tears were overwhelming him.

“Stranger, can I take you where I live?” the boy asked me. “sure?”,i said to him. He hold tight my hands, curling to his frustrations.

My conversation with him revealed more, an insight into his life. He puts on rags, lives in a cave, eats from the bin! All these are not his liking, its nature, he is a victim of cirmcumstance, I believe its a situation he is in. Through you, light will shine his way. Read and share his story, a story of a determined young man.

Life can at times be shaking, sad and horrific. The young man asks for your help to finish his studies, to have a future once more to see light shine to his now dark academic life.

Bayern fires past Fc Porto to reach semi finals

Xabi Alonso celebrates scoring as Bayern Munich beat FC Porto 6-1 in their UEFA Champions League second-leg quarter-final match in Munich, southern Germany on April 21, 2015. PHOTO | GUENTER SCHIFFMANNMUNICH

Robert Lewandowski scored twice on Tuesday as Bayern Munich powered into the Champions League semi-finals for the fourth year in succession with a 6-1 second-leg routing — 7-4 on aggregate — of ten-man Porto.

Needing to over turn a two-goal deficit after last Wednesday's shock 3-1 first-leg defeat at Porto, Bayern produced a devastating first-half display scoring five times to demoralize their opponents.

Lewandowski now has 22 goals in all competitions while Thomas Mueller, Jerome Boateng and Thiago Alcantara also grabbed first-half goals.

The game's tempo dropped after the break allowing Porto captain Jackson Martinez to score a consolation goal.

Porto finished with ten men when defender Ivan Marcano received a second yellow card just before Xabi Alonso crashed home a free-kick — their coach Julen Lopategui was also sent from the touchline.

The scoreline matches Porto's record away defeat in Europe when they lost 6-1 at AEK Athens in the defunct European Champion Clubs' Cup in 1978.

Having routed AS Roma 7-1 away in the group stages and mauled Shakhtar Donestk 7-0 in Munich in the last 16, Bayern produced more clinical finishing in the first-half.

TREBLE DREAM

The Germans kept alive the dream of repeating their 2013 treble of Champions League, Bundesliga and German Cup crowns by going into Friday's semi-finals draw.

They can pick up their first silverware of the season on Saturday if they beat Hertha Berlin at home to have the Bundesliga title confirmed for a third year running.

The victory was all the more impressive as it came without injured star wingers Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben, while Germany captain Bastian Schweinsteiger stayed on the bench.

Bayern attacked from the outset, enjoying 75 percent possession early on, and rarely allowed Porto into their half.

Lewandowski hit the woodwork with nine minutes gone and the opening goal came just five minutes later.

Spain defender Juan Bernat, a constant threat on Bayern's left wing, swung in a corner and Thiago, who scored their away goal at Porto, headed home at the near post.

The crucial second goal came from Bayern's centre-backs as Holger Badstuber, in for Dante in the only change from the side who lost at Porto, headed on a corner and Boateng powered the ball home on 21 minutes.

Lewandowski compounded Porto's misery as Philipp Lahm's cross from the right was flicked on by Mueller and the Polish striker was on hand to power home his header.

With Bayern scoring at will, Fabiano was wrong-footed when Mueller's strike on 36 minutes took a deflection as the hosts went 4-0 up.

Lewandowski added his second five minutes before the break to make it 5-0 with 50 minutes still to play.

Mueller passed off to the Polish striker, who took a couple of touches to create space, then drilled the ball low into the corner.

With the game effectively over as a contest, Martinez gave Porto some late hope when substitute Evandro's cross was headed home from close range on 73 minutes.

Marcano's foul on Thiago led to the free-kick which Alonso drilled home on 88 minutes to cap Bayern's rousing night although the exitement got to their coach Pep Guardiola as he ended the game with split trousers.

5 Key item you need to carry with you to a career fair

Career fairUpon joining a university or college, one of the things you notice is how you get exposed to a whole new world you barely knew existed. It is in college that you realize you future is very dependent on the decisions you make. You are presented with many opportunities – good and bad – it’s up to you to make best use of these opportunities.

One of the opportunities are the many career fairs that are held by companies and your university. With the informal setting and familiar environment for the students, career fairs are known to have a relaxed air around them while still accomplishing the same goal of connecting students with potential employers.

Whilst a number of students manage to come from career fairs with a positive result, a lot end up with nothing to show at the end of the day save for a few crumpled flyers and a free t-shirt, if lucky. In as much as the success or failure of a student in a Career Fair depends on various pointers, a huge number of students ignore the preparation bit.

Here are five tips to make sure you walk into a career fair like a champion.

1. Background checks

Usually a couple of weeks before a career fair is held, a list of participating companies or organizations is handed out. This can be through the flyers or email. Take some time and see if you can research the companies and their products or services. If a certain speaker has been included on the list, check out their LinkedIn profiles and learn more about them. At the career fair, use this information to engage the company or the individual in a conversation.

 2. An Updated CV

Never go to a career fair without your CV. If a CV is the launch pad for your career, then it should be almost a no-brainer to have it in hand when attending a career fair. But make sure it is always up to date and that you have many copies.

 3. A Professional Outfit

You should always treat these fairs like a job interview. Dress up the job you would want to have. It’s this sense of professionalism that will appeal to the recruiters and hopefully impress them enough for you to land a position or an internship.

 4. An Elevator Pitch

Anytime you attend a career fair, remember that you are trying to sell a brand. With the brand being yourself. Before attending, make sure you have rehearsed your polished elevator pitch. It should convey who you are and how you are passionate about your preferred industry.

 5. Business Cards

A business card shows how you have taken the time to prepare your brand and sets you apart from the masses who don’t have one. A contact might not be able to remember all the faces and the names but they will sure remember you by your business card. Make sure you carry enough of them and that they are professional looking.

QS TopMBA: Jobs & Salary Trends Report

KenUoN business schoolya is churning over 3,000 Masters of Business Administration graduates every year, making the graduate degree one of the most popular courses in the country. Over 20 public and private universities are offering MBA degrees in the country, with more expected to join the fray.

Despite the soaring MBA numbers, the demand for qualified business managers has grown in tandem and employers are paying top dollar for MBA holders. But there is a caveat: Years of experience and the issuing institution determines how much you earn, according to QS TopMBA: Jobs & Salary Trends Report.

Graduates from some of the best MBA Schools in Africa like University of Cape Town Graduate School of Business, Universities of Wits and Stellenbosch earn an average of $50,000 (Sh4.5M) per year while MBA holders in Asia earn an average of $85,000.

According to the report, demand for MBAs in the technology sectors has undergone an era of unprecedented growth, especially in Asia.  The globalization of skills is seen in the report as demand for MBAs in North America and Western Europe has flattened in the last three-four years, reflecting the economic growth in these regions.

“The real story is the continued astounding appetite of Asian employers for the MBA qualification. Asian employers reported another bumper year, with 20 percent growth in MBA demand in 2013. Employers, particularly in India and China, are embracing the qualification, especially in consulting and professional services, manufacturing, IT/computer services, finance and micro-finance,” states the report.

Whilst Kenya was not featured in the survey, a Nairobi-based HR consultant says an MBA may not necessarily give a candidate an edge when applying for a job.

“Kenyan employers are looking for specialized skills gained from working experience. The right papers are just an entry point,” says Perminus Wainana.

A hiring & Trend report released a month ago by Corporate Staffing Services showed that 61.6 percent of the employers assess the area of specialization of the candidates. Leadership experience comes a close second followed by a candidate’s affordability.[ad name="HTML-1"]

Memorial Speech by RAILA ODINGA during Devolution Conference in Kisumu

Appreciating and strengthening Devolved Governance; Working together to Realize the Objectives of Devolution.

Your Excellency the President;

Council of Governors;

One of the amazing achievements of democracy is how its fruits trickle down to supporters and opponents alike.

Those who voted for or against the constitution have equal chance to benefit from its fruits. It is the story of Devolution in Kenya.

We may debate how the counties are being governed. But there can be no doubt that voters want their counties to be supported and strengthened, not wound up or undermined.

Devolution has many challenges. Corruption cartels have commandeered many county governments. Unrepentant believers in the old order are fighting devolved units in the false hope that they can reverse the clock.

Some elected leaders have confused their oversight role with execution, pitting county assemblies against county executives.

Some of the County governments are too tiny to benefit from economies of scale. Nearly all county governments are serving populations grounded in decades of poverty. Many sectors with direct impact on citizens have not been fully devolved. Although Health is devolved, it has serious challenges with regard to funding and personnel.

Agriculture and infrastructure are not fully devolved, but people expect the County governments to deliver on them. In these partially devolved areas, County and National Government Development plans are creating conflicting priorities, confusion and unclear visions.

Some counties are bogged down by tribal and clan tension.

Nearly all county governments are sagging under the weight of expectations. Voters expected that services that had stalled for fifty years in infrastructure, healthcare, tourism, agriculture and employment would take off immediately under county governments.

By and large however, Devolution is changing our country in ways few imagined. There have been loud concerns about corruption. The activities of some members of the County Assemblies and County Executives have been seen as pushing greed and impunity to new levels, sparking off protests.

But there is a positive side to the protests. They indicate that the people are taking control of their destiny. In the days of the old order, nobody questioned the PC, the DC or the DO. Too few knew what had been allocated for their development. Development was what the DC or PC said. Devolution has come with a new boss; the people. Development is what the people say it should be.

The National Government has handed over more powers to politicians and institutions elsewhere in Migori, Muranga, Mombasa, Turkana, Kericho, Bomet and elsewhere. What we do with those powers are absolutely up to us.

Results are trickling everywhere.

In Turkana, they have cut distance to the hospital from 55 kilometres to 35 kilometres in two years. Turkana increased education bursaries from Kshs 150 million to Kshs 300 million in the current financial year. At no one time in the last 50 years did the Government of Kenya allocate such amount of money to the education of Turkana children.

Rural Health Services that long suffered inadequate financing; dilapidated physical facilities; unreliable supply of drugs; absence of adequate medical equipment; and shortage of qualified medical staff have changed.

Nearly every village has access ambulance services from their county government.

In Kisii, each of the nine sub county hospitals has a state-of-the-art ambulance operated by qualified paramedics. This has boosted referral of critical cases by over 340 per cent. Referral of pregnant mothers has increased by 300 per cent. This story is replicated allover the country.Kisii Town is now a 24 hour town after the County Government installed 300 solar lights.

In Arid Marsabit County where water is life literally, the County Government has drilled 26 boreholes in the last two years against less than 15 boreholes drilled by national Government in the last 50 years. A slaughter house is coming up for the first time since independence.

Mombasa County’s School Milk Program has seen over 27,000 children from all the public Nursery and lower primary from class1-3 get school milk 5 days a week. The focus here is to improve nutrition which if not addressed in childhood leads to stunting and low prospects in later life. It is also meant to enhance the transition rate from home to ECD and from ECD to primary school.

The planned water desalination plant by county government will solve a long standing problem that should have been addressed decades ago.

The Muranga Integrated Development Day, incorporating the Muranga Investments Cooperative and Muranga Child Can are pace setters.

Despite the problems the leadership is going through, the amount of talent and capacity the county has put together indicate something worth looking forward to.

We are witnessing regional growth and enterprise outside of Nairobi and the traditional “high potential” areas. Yes, people are still heading to Nairobi for jobs. But millions are instead heading to the county governments.

Kenya’s economy has withstood the shocks coming from insecurity partly because of the investments going on in counties and the promise of these counties. For the first time in our history, we are looking at the possibility of an economy firing on all cylinders.

The point that was missed by the political elite for too long; that we need to rebalance our economy away from its overreliance on the National Government is slowly beginning to sink.

We are beginning to realize that we have other strengths too in other places and that there is actually no low potential part of Kenya.

Despite problems, Devolution has put Kenya on right course, in line with trends in the world; strong economies, built on semi-autonomous and interdependent regions. It is the story of Germany, the US, India, UK.It is a story all Kenyans have bought. If you doubt, just try abolishing a county.[ad name="HTML-2"]

Breaking: Key Terror suspect Arrested Monday Night

A key Al-ShRecce GSUabaab operative has tonight been arrested in Somalia while scouring one of the popular malls in Nairobi’s Kayole estate for a possible attack.

According to sources privy to the operation, Dadacha Yusuf Abdullahi was arrested while sitting inside the Nakumatt Shujaa Mall as he surveyed the building for a possible attack. Dadacha did not know that key security officers followed him from Mandera to Nairobi where he arrived late last week.

Sleuths have been on his tail without his knowledge. He was picked from the crowded mall by the anti-terrorism police officers who have been conducting the investigations.

His arrest brought relief in the security circles as he was believed to be planning an attack at one of the key malls in Eastlands. Security officers breathed a sigh of relief after his arrest and openly celebrated.

Dadacha is believed to be one of the Manyani trained Kenyans who joined the Al-Shabaab after failing to join the Somalia government security as earlier intended. According to investigators, Dadacha was born in Moyale where he also went to school.

Shocking: Inside Egerton University sex Dens

In a rather shocking turn of events, the premier agricultural University at the heart of Njoro, Egerton University has of late hit the news headlines.Earlier today, a lady was caught pants down with her mpango wa kando in the act by her boyfriend. more shocking was how daring the lady was, to manage to cheat on her boyfriend with a lad residing in the same hostel block. All the poor man could do was to take pictures of her lady in action. Residents of Ruwenzori hostels who checked into the scene to have a glimpse of the free cinema left dissapointed and some were wondering where some comrades still got time to make out will everyone was busy in the library in preparation for the exams.

In a related event, a lady from the same university by the name Maurine Mildred has taken to their facebook group asking male colleagues to m-pesa her ksh 200 in exchange of her " hot videos".Below is the post.
"whatsapp me with your 200sh only i show u hot wet vids of me live sai from egerton town campus. pics ni 100b0b tu. if you want both send 300 nikupe 30 pics plus seven hot vids live sai. whatsapp me thorugh 0713886273. hakuna samples. just full pics nd vids"

The question that has left many comrades wondering is, whats happening at the premier agricultural institution? Could they be closely following the roots of the infamous Muliro gardens ?

RONGO UNIVERSITY: A tale of painful elections and the University closure

Things seem to get thicker for Rongo University College students, their academic boots hung on top of the roof following the highly intense elections, that were marred with emotions, heavy propaganda, one that saw the two largest groups within the campus forge a coalition of the willing, “the winning coalition” the say, with their coined Luo clarion tag “okwasechi”, the students went to one of the elections of its kind in Rongo University College history. Opponents were threatened and intimidated, some had to run away for their dear lives.

The elections saw majority of those elected come from the above said coalition, a coalition that boasted of tyranny of numbers at its inception. The pain, joy and hatred of the national politics took center stage where some groups felt sidelined in the national politics, another felt frustrated by the ruling elite while the last group felt there was no need to replicate the national politics in campus and asked for a show of political maturity.

The fierce contest saw one Mr. Paul Frank clinch the top seat, deputized by Mr. Alila while Mr. Ronald Kiprui won the Secretary Generals’ seat. The Luo-Kalenjin coalition only lost one seat, Entertainment seat that went to Robby Njeru.Claims of vote rigging after the release of the final results escalated the tension among the students, some of which feared for their security. In one of the student’sFacebook group, WHISPERS, the “winning” team told their “loosing” counterpart’s to accept the results and Move on as they have always been told in the National politics and asked those aggrieved to use the right channel to air their grievances and challenge the election outcome.

What followed thereafter was smoke from one of the students Hostels-Lower Nyayo was on fire, huge smoke could be seen coming from the hostels at 8.00 am. The morning incident prompted the administration to call in the police to re-enforce security as the administration headed for an impromptu council meeting that saw the closure of the university college paving the way for investigations into the matter.

Some of the aggrieved students then went to the Ministry of Education headquarters where they had a meeting with CS Education-Prof.Kaimenyi, they presented their grievances and also wrote a letter to the Cabinet Secretary for Education, the letter was also copied to the PS Education and the Commission for Higher Education.

Meanwhile, the students remain out of session awaiting further direction from the university College Board on the way forward, the damage charges and when to resume shall be communicated later.

Kikuyu ladies stereotyping : why men fear marrying them

A lot has been said about Kikuyu women. In fact, of the women from the 42 ethnic communities, no other tribe gets as much flak as them. They have been accused of all manner of things; they not only ‘sit’ on their husbands, but also beat them up; they kill their men when bored with them to enjoy their property; they walk out of marriages old enough to produce grandchildren, and wags never tire of poking fun at their culinary skills. Things seem so bad that some parents, including fellow Kikuyus, warn their sons against marrying these women.

But why exactly are Kikuyu women so heavily stereotyped? Well, it is believed that more than females from any other community in Kenya, this lot conforms to the Western notion of ‘liberated’ women. Sociologists argue that unlike other Kenyan women, most Kikuyus were emancipated from social shackles and domestic bondage long ago, and have perpetuated this ‘liberation’ from generation to generation. Could this be the reason why most Kenyan men date but fear marrying them? Is this why they have high expectations from men? So much that most men can’t cope with them — or vice versa — that they run away (or get kicked out!), making them now produce the highest number of single mother households in the country (if an extrapolation of the 2010 population census is anything to go by)? Well, historical and anthropological facts reveal the Kikuyu community was, and partly still is, fundamentally matriarchal (led by women) and matrilineal (descended through mothers) and is suffering from the imposition of patriarchy upon it.

Highest number of single mothers
The dominance of these iron ‘ladies’ can be traced back to chief Wangu wa Makeri. Folklore has it that she was the first and only female leader, appointed by the British, in the entire colonial period. Wangu was a no nonsense leader who terrorised men. The fate of many depended on her whims. Tax evaders peed and crapped on themselves at the mere mention of her name. Men feared meeting her, and always took cover when she was in vicinity. Reason? She rode on their backs, especially able bodied ones, as a means of transport! Would you believe that? Kiriro wa Njogu, a 76-year-old elder from Kiambu, humorously says Kikuyu women were liberated long ago and, pardon the pun, are used to ‘being on top of their men’, hardly ‘taking things lying down’. “Kikuyu women were emancipated from shackles of oppression before Kenya’s independence. Many draw inspiration from Wangu wa Makeri. Things were so bad during her reign of terror that men even tried in vain to stage a ‘coup’ by impregnating all women so as to overthrow Wangu and the female leadership when all were expectant and vulnerable,” chuckles Njogu, adding, “Oppressive cultural practices biased against women are unheard of among Kikuyus. Have you ever heard about wife inheritance or rampant polygamy in Central Kenya?”
They hate lazy men According to the elder, Kikuyu women have been ‘free‘ from way back. He says most are no nonsense, demanding and have very high expectations from men. This pressure, he says is what sends some of their men away or to alcohol. Hear him: “These women hate lazy men. You must step up to the plate or else reap wrath and get kicked out. To counter cases of polygamy for instance, they had a practice called kuiyithia (loosely translated ‘to help steal‘, what is nowadays called swinging). They were so daring that they slept with other men as a recreational or social activity. This was also meant to break jinxes from cursed husbands and to limit the inheritance of negative genes such as stupidity.”
He says kuiyithia was also not just meant to give bachelors a taste of what they were missing, and lure them into getting married, but also offered an outlet for their sexual urges, considering unmarried women were strictly forbidden to have premarital sex. “Unmarried women who lost their virginity and got pregnant could only be married off as second wives, and derogatorily referred to as gochokio,”says Njogu. Some naughty women, he says, were so bold that they even ‘warmed beds’ for their husbands’ visiting friends by sleeping with them! Kikuyu clans named after women “Most helpless, drunk men knew their daring wives fooled around, and even brought home boyfriends. But all they did was announce their arrival by loudly breaking into song, once they got near the home to alert these men to safely leave through the backdoor,” adds a giggly Njogu.
It’s believed that against this backdrop of matriarchy that Kikuyu women still stand out as ‘tough’, ‘difficult’ and ‘headstrong’ yet hardworking. Strange as it may sound, unlike other Kenyan communities, Kikuyu clans are named after women. Speculation has it that most homes in Central Kenya are headed by women, even where husbands exist. Chances are that in most Kenyan homes where mothers as breadwinners, the woman is Kikuyu. “Most Kikuyu women take charge of their homes because husbands take too much alcohol and are lazy or absent. Ever wondered why Kikuyu women hardly haul men to court over child support? We are hardworking and always move on and fend for our children,” says Mercy Nyambura, a single mother of two in Nairobi. She tells this writer how she separated from her husband over alcoholism and laziness. She says, “Kikuyu women don’t entertain nonsense from men. They fear us because we dislike laziness, which happens to be the nature of most Kenyan men. They want to be babied and pampered even when they are bringing home nothing”.
Nyambura says, Kikuyu women can’t stand abusive marriages. “You will never hear us complain of battery or mistreatment and still stay put. We always pack and leave. Or beat you up and kick you out”.
She says Kikuyu women are raised to be masculine, hard workers, and to take care of their families. As for why they seem to be the only ones who get a lot of criticism, she simply says, rather dismisively: “It‘s chauvinism from men and jealousy from other women.” Nyambura’s sentiments are echoed by Kate Wairimu, a city resident. She says Kikuyu women work so hard and do anything to feed and educate their children. “In Nairobi, when you go to a construction site, the women you find doing jobs traditionally assumed to be for men are Kikuyu. All those female makangas and watchwomen you know are Kikuyu. We’re not choosy with work,” she says defensively.

The post first appeared in the Standard SDE.

and still stay put. We always pack and leave. Or beat you up and kick you out”.

GARISSA UNIVERSITY COLLEGE SURVIVOR: I have been given a New "assignment" to finish in my life...

The 22-year-old Gitonga Ng’ang’a is now home with his family in Nairobi after mysteriously surviving the "massare" by Al-Shabaab Terror group. The student and pastor hid under his bed after hearing shooting at the university. As the gunmen entered his room, he prayed to God to protect his life. “The students were shouting and there were those who were crying, and the gunmen at first they were not talking until they occupied the hostels where we were sleeping. By then they could just speak loudly and say that ‘We are here to kill and to be killed’,” he said. Gitonga believes God, not luck, let him escape “from the claws of the enemy”. “I had to step over blood and the dead bodies of my closest friends and very good friends of mine. It was bitter. It’s even now bitter to remember,” he added. He does not know the reason he was spared, but believes he has now been given a “assignment” to complete in life.

SHOCKING TALE OF GARISSA UNIVERSITY COLLEGE SURVIVORS: "I had to step over blood and the dead bodies of my closest friends"

For the relatives of students missing after the attack on Garissa University College, the slow pace of the identification process and some confusion are compounding their distress.
The authorities have acknowledged several cases where two families had claimed the same body.
Isaac Mutua Mutisya is the father of missing 20-year-old business management student Risper Mutindi.
“I was here yesterday to look for the body of my daughter, which I identified. But I found that it had already been identified by somebody else, so I have come here today to clarify whether it is my daughter’s body or someone else’s,” he said.
Extra measures are being taken to tighten identification procedures.
“So as of now, last night, we had the National Registration Bureau going through the fingerprints, matching them, the entire night to make sure they are scientifically determined the identity of those bodies,” Kenyan Cabinet Secretary for Health, James Macharia told a news conference.
Kenya claims killing scores of militants following Saturday’s bus ambush
Meanwhile, more harrowing tales have emerged of Thursday’s massacre, when 148 people died as al-Shabaab gunmen singled out non-Muslims.
22-year-old Gitonga Ng’ang’a is now home with his family in Nairobi.
The student and pastor hid under his bed after hearing shooting at the university. As the gunmen entered his room, he prayed to God to protect his life.

He does not know the reason he was spared, but believes he has now been given a “assignment” to complete in life.
The campus was opened up to the media on Monday for the first time since the attack, which lasted a whole day.

Giuliana Rancic Dumped: Celeb Gossip

Giuliana claims Jerry cheated with Geri Halliwell
Giuliana Rancic has made bombshell claims about ex Jerry O'Connell cheating on her with two women, including former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell.
The E! presenter and Fashion Police host opens up about her relationship with the TV star, 41, in her new tell-all book, Going Off Script, after the pair had a rocky relationship from 2003 until 2004.
In an excerpt obtained by New York Post's Page Six column, the 40-year-old star wrote: "I was being two-timed for one of the lesser Spices?"
When she discovered his secret affair and confronted him, she said he simply told her: "Yeah, I know. I’m so sorry. I don't know what happened."
It is not known whether or not Geri knew they were in a relationship at the time.

Mass Recruitment Drive For Al-Shabaab-Find out

NAIROBI: At least 40families in Isiolo County have reported their children missing over the last one year, with fears they could have gone to Somalia to join the Al-Shabaab terrorist group. They are jobless youths aged 18to 22years and considering they are from one county alone, it raises concerns about the extent of Al-Shabaab’s recruitment of young Kenyans. The reports come on the back of revelations that one of the gunmen who participated in the slaughter of147 at Garissa University College disappeared two years ago only to reappear last Thursday to lead the murderous rampage. Atleast40parents have reported to police in Isiolo about the disappearance of their children in the last one year. More worrying are reports that of those missing, at least 30 are students at a local secondary school said to have failed to return last year. And the figure of the youths reported missing could be much higher, according to authorities. See also: Fallen Recce officer's AP brother was killed by Al-Shabaab in Garissa two years ago Monday, some leaders from Mandera, Garissa and Wajir vowed to identify, document and expose members, financiers and sympathisers of Al-Shabaab in their counties and hand the list to the Government for action within a month. "We will within a week mobilise our constituents, and working with national and county governments, compile and submit details of suspects with Government agencies validating the information to guard against any victimisation," the leaders said in a statement read out to journalists at the Boma Hotel, by National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale (see other story). Isiolo County Police Commander Nelson Okionga Monday said "many" Muslim parents had reported disappearance of male youths in the last two years. Mr Okionga added that his office had compiled the list, which he promised to provide to the media today. "The compiled list (of those reported missing) is with the District Criminal Investigations Officer (DCIO). Today is a holiday and you can get it tomorrow," Okionga told The Standard. And four parents who spoke to The Standard Monday on condition of anonymity due to sensitivity of the matter said their children went missing early last year

Garrisa Attack: A Tale of Delayed Response and A graduate Terrorist!

Kenya's interior ministry has identified one of the al-Shabab gunmen who massacred students at a northeastern university as the son of a Kenyan government official. Mwenda Njoka, an interior ministry spokesman, said Abdirahim Abdullahi was among four gunmen who attacked the Garissa University College campus on Thursday, killing 148 people. "The father had reported to security agents that his son had disappeared from home ... and was helping the police try to trace his son by the time the Garissa terror attack happened," Njoka told the Reuters news agency in a text message. The Kenya Today website identified Abdullahi as the son of Abdullahi Daqara, the Chief of Bulla Jamhuri in Mandera county. It described Abdullahi as a former gifted law graduate who had studied at the University of Nairobi. 'Delayed' response As Kenya began three days of national mourning and dedicated Easter prayer services to the victims of the attack, reports emerged that Kenyan special forces were not deployed to the site of the attack, near the border with Somalia, for at least seven hours. Kenya's major Nation newspaper said it took until just before 2pm for the main response team to reach the scene, despite alarm bells going off in Nairobi as soon as the first reports of the pre-dawn attack emerged.

PRESIDENT UHURU COMMENDS NIGERIAN POLL WINNER BUHARI.

General Muhammadu Buhari's win in Nigeria's general election is a clear indication of the people's faith in his leadership, President Uhuru Kenyatta has said. While congratulating Buhari, he said his hope is that relations between Kenya and Nigeria will be strengthened further. Uhuru commended outgoing President Goodluck Jonathan for conceding defeat, saying it earned him honour. “This demonstrates a lot of humility and is an indication that democracy has come of age in your country, and the African continent. No doubt this will earn you a place in the African eminent person’s honour,” he said in a statement on Wednesday. He added that Jonathan has demonstrated courage, patriotism and statesmanship. Uhuru thanked Jonathan for his efforts in promoting fruitful engagements between Kenya and Nigeria during his tenure, noting that it deepened bilateral relations. Buhari, 72, who first came to power three decades ago via a military coup, garnered 15.4 million votes compared to Jonathan's 13.3 million. He campaigned as a born-again democrat intent on cleaning up the corrupt politics of Africa's most populous nation. He will be sworn in on May 29, as the 16th head of state of Nigeria, which attained independence in 1960. - See more at: http://www.the-star.co.ke/news/uhuru-commends-nigerian-election-winner-buhari-terms-outgoing-president-jonathan-patriot#sthash.veKfjqRc.dpuf Source, The Star

#mydressmychoice: utter nonsense!!

#mydressmychoice: utter nonsense. We cannot, we will not, we will never ever come out in large numbers, we will never support a demonstration seeking a leeway to legalize nudity, a demonstration in support to indecency, a demonstration seeking to hoodwink men and boys into social immorality. I watched in pain as women and ladies of substance took to the streets, to every pavement and corners of this our small city, seeking authenticity of indecency, a roadmap towards societal moral decadence. It was a walk, a useless painful walk, a walk in the wild seeking and searching for elusive support, drawing unnecessary attention from the lazy, the old and the easily gullible in a society full of elite and goal oriented citizenry. Miniskirts have never been, are not and will never be a modern, technological or even a digital version of beauty, so stop this creepy nonsense ladies, its time you grew up, open your eyes and see! When you walk down the lane, the streets and to the business pavements in that micro outfit, how does it feel like? What does it portray? You do not only create a feeling of lust among men and gentlemen, but also lure them to sexual immorality and disrupt attention. It costs nothing to dress decently, it harbors no pain to look smart in that nice outfit. Whenever cases of rape are read out in the courts, reasons range far and wide, from lust to revealing outfits that drew sexual feelings, save for the rest. In light to the stripping incidences at Kayole and Embassava, a clear message has been sent out, a worthy testimony in the public domain, that it is time we did away with indecent, revealing clothes and just like our neighbors’, Uganda, ban wearing of the miniskirts. I do not seek or even purport to support the ongoing stripping spree in Kenya, a journey started in high tempo, in fact I “condemn it” in the strongest terms possible. Your dress ceases to be your choice when it disrupts others from their work, when it draws majority into temptation and in this context, coital warfare. This decay in the morals of a society is not only bad for the future posterity but also an impediment towards the fight on HIV/AIDS. As Kenya grapples with this menace, let it go the Uganda way, declare a total ban on miniskirts and public indecent behavior or rather have strict “Nudity and decency laws” just like in the States. As I pen my final words, it’s my thought that all those who took part in the “silly” campaigns on #mydressmychoice are the remaining few immoral outwits that we have remaining with us in the society, it’s high time we took them to Mathare for a checkup! Hey, look at United Kingdom, the fashion city, do they do miniskirts? The answer is an outright NO, yet those ladies are beautiful, that is, if beauty was a measure of outward appearance of which I strongly disagree. Ladies, beauty is a measure of your inward capability, character and personality. They say, when it walks like a duck, waddles like a duck, behaves like a duck, then surely it is. So when you want to make no difference between “the business associates” in K- Street and yourselves, then you cease being whom you are and become “a high tech business associate”. When we stop politicizing everything in Kenya, we shall brew decency and high moral standards. Let’s come out and rebuke, as the police do what they are good at, investigate, arrest and prosecute the strippers as we say a big NO to immorality and indecent dressing and kiss goodbye to miniskirts and this entire bullshit of #mydressmychoice. If you want to practice nudity, if you want to practice stripping then kindly do not use our roads, highways and pavements as the rehearsal grounds, you risk embarrassment!!!

An open letter to a lady I pretended to have a crush on in campus.

Dear Miss Iymar, Love, I know you will come along this letter in campus corridors. From the days I used to refer to you as a semi girl, the young charming, beautiful and benovelent girl, sharp upstairs and amassed with “wealthy future and promising past”. I still dont want to allude that you had a provoking rare, but my illusion is on your imensed beauty. From the tense lectures on common units, under the tense tutolage of Lecturer Ondieki to the most boring yet educative Computer Programming lectures by Odawa, the memory still rings fresh and young. I was shy then, but I could not let you realize it, I was full of life and adventure, travelling everywhere and to nowhere in particular was my hobby, at least the heart was willing though the pocket wasn’t. Do you remember how I asked you about your phone number? My teenage compliments? At times you joked around, teasing with your warmth breath. I liked hanging around you, it was all bliss and drama. Your dimples, smile to the lovely winks. You were an envy to many. Do you remember those moves? Yes, the way you used to cat walk, cutting the edges , majestically moving like mahogany , with thick thighs . Your hena red sensuas lips were a killer to many, the protruded swaying hips not only ascertained to a marvelous Godly creation but a true reflection of an african beauty.you kept it simple an forcussed, academicaly oriented and morally upright, loved and hated on equal measure, but who could help my crush? Because I loved you and you too knew about it very well. Years have rolled and set those of past, emotions have flowed and the rich flowers of life have growned. As we prepare to bid adieu the campus life, remember its nolonger a crush, the future is sealed. Someone might have blowned mallice behind you, forget it like yesterday, it was out of envy, keep it forcussed. My pennal blotting comes to an end, just as I joined the world in developing my county, so I leave for my weekend vacation, remember always, leaves sprung during winter and whither during summer. As you open a new chapter into your life, know that we are out to build the future, as we lay the foundation with bricks, let’s keep the forcus. When the heart bleeds, a hollow is felt, from the incessant chipping of crickets to the whistling of the idle winds, the heart finds no peace in strangers. Do you remember our adventure by the river side?yes, the cool breeze pierced through the body, torn the heart to a heeling rhythm. It numb the emotions so strong as if we were by the river side awaiting the knife of life- circumcision, right we were by the river side but the initiator was conspicuously missing with the knife, to unite us as one. It is unnecessary to reminisce everything, let the few speak for everything, for this is the sound of a pretended campus crush, three years down of love, deceit and torment. When you come to the attention of this letter, just remember that I still cherish the moments, not that we aint communicating, not that we wont meet, but that the juxtaposition is true, that the contrary is justified. Despite your tight schedule, dont hesitate to reply . Yours affectionately,

UNFINISHED AFFAIR.

When you get to read this article, either from campus corridors, academic paths or the gossiping hotspots of hostel Q** and J** , my dear, you will learn that it is too late to say sorry, and in Tarrus rilleys’ words, sorry is just a word. From the very day you were diagnosed with a serious disease that could have caused your life, I stood by you. I forgot our differences and provided a shoulder to lean on, I provided a listening ear to the one I loved, to one whom had it not been for uncertainities of life, could have been a mother to the family! When you paid me a visit, I sensed all was not ok, but I could not let you know that your condition was worsening, how could I even start telling you that you were soon to leave us? Above all how could I stand your absence? I had started tuning my mind and prepared for “everything”. When you passed away last night, twice to be precise, at consecutive intervals of an hour, you talked much, you lay bare you love for your “hubby” and your niece. That was just the begening, then you started wasting, so fast that I had to tell you but with caution, I empathized, it was sad to see you leave this early as the world was not prepaired to say adieu. Did the varsity Doctor tell you that you passed out again in her office? You fell down so quick and fast hitting your head on the tiles that she broke into tears. Your ordeal was one of its kind, a tear dropping one, but how could I let you know? I kept the secret for the sake of our relationship. Even if I had to tell you, it will be as if I am injecting another dose of trauma in you. My love, you remember nothing, I mean entirely nothing. The other day you lay in the hospital bed, far away to seek private treatment as your condition was worsening, there I stood by you, a second after the other praying hoping for the best. Those were my most trying moments. I may take a whole centuary to reminisce the jovial-sad past, they seem outstanding, blissful and sad. The last words you uttered on that bed and I beside you, “ken, promise you wont leave me……promise to love me forever…..”. “…Yes dear, I gona stand by you….” I responded in a somber mood. Symbolically that dark string was hanging up-down, my faith was fading so fast but my love was determined. It may seem to some as if I am writing a “living” autobiography but I am not. The last thing that struck my heart was, at last, grass shall grow and the rains shall fall to wash away the smokey past. I always whispered in your ear and even cracked jokes on the shocker of this inter-ethnic relationship between “these” two antagonising sides, just to always prepare you for the challanges that awaited it. You always responded by saying, “…….ken, I am ready to fight for my love….” Today stands no history but a documented record of my saying, you bowed to the pressure. It may seem as if hatred is brewed in the heart, but the soul overflows with joy, pain and experience. You may have persectively viewed my limit of your association to some circles of your boyfriend’s as being jealous, No, I was trying to restore your image, build your reputation and uphold your moral standards. Infact, my heart is a high vault of philanthropy. I may have categorically quoted your first love because I knew you had an unfinished affair!! My assertion tonight might be skewed but honest. You had an unfinished affair, infact a secret affair of betrayal, a vangeful act and a pin nailing truth of the in compatability of the antagonising two. When you get this information, I dont know of how you will react, you may laugh and make merry, as well as you may sink in deep tears. You owe me a dime, I owe your a precious gold, blood gold!! I know you understand what I mean, the war of emotions and feelings has been long, tiring, painful and heart wretching but we have fought it, we have fought dedicatively, we have fought united, we have fought deligently ,we had prepared our ethnic arsenal and our artillery were all forcused to the few bewitched hard tribalists.Unfortunately we have fallen for the enemy, we have been subdued and our territory taken over. At one point, history draws it close, that when it walks like a duck, waddles like a duck, behaves like a duck then surely, it is one. You may not have been previlledged to see your in-laws, but I believe that was all the Almighty plan. As I pen the final bits of this short note, all seems impossible, the interpretation that you give it is actually what stands. For that was the short journey towards matrimony we travelled, traversing the the deep seas of problems, oceans of tribulations and rivers of challanges. I bid bye to you, from your sick bed I stood with you, for better for worse, in joy and sadness for the duration of life. I say adieu for the unfinished affair, I hand over the elements of power, the arsenal of war to the highest ethno-relatic bidder, to the perpertuators of perenial ethno-centred strings of relatic war, the protagonists! The journey might have seemed long and boring, but this marks the end, One day, you’ll understand that waiting isn’t easy at all,You’ll understand that waiting is like you let your scars left unhealed. One day, you’ll understand that saying the truth isn’t easy at all. You’ll understand that saying the truth is like stabbing yourself, noticing the impact of the truth for the one you love.you’ll understand that letting go isn’t easy at all. You’ll understand that letting go is like let you die little by little, you’ll understand that loving someone isn’t easy at all, loving someone is like trying to change the whole world, knowing that (S)he never loves . My dear, I should admit that sometimes we need to let go of things we’ve never had or things that just not mean to be for us. I should admit that sometimes we need to let go of memories we’ve experienced or memories that cut like knifes.sometimes we need to let go of someone we’ve loved or someone who’s definitely wouldn’t fight for us.You should know that sometimes you should let them go because you really deserve to be happy. Adieu,
